Pics of the GEN 4 Glocks are out

Pics of the new Glock Gen 4 are out on www.thefirearmsblog.com for those that are interested. I'm glad they got around to making the backstrap on the grip changeable. :10_1_20:

As long as mags are switchable they will be just fine.

So just to summarize all the point about the Glock Gen4 ...

* Initially Glock 17 (9mm) and Glock 22 (.40 S&W) will be available. Compact models will follow later in 2010.
* Features duel recoil spring which should increase reliability.
* Features Swappable backstraps.
* Magazine release swappable between left and right.
* Old magazines still work, but only when mag release is on left side.

* Gen4 slide is clearly marked as "Gen4".
* Retail price for G17 and G22 Gen4 is about $700 (actual prices will be lower than this).
* Glock will cease sales of the 3rd Generation and RTF models.
So, TA... it looks like the mags ARE interchangeable, but only if you keep the mag release on the left side and don't set it up for "lefties" by moving it to the right side.

From Glocktalk, the word is the slides are marked as "Gen 4" because the new dual recoil spring setup needs a larger hole in the front end of the slide. This implies that the slide from a Gen 4 gun will not interchange with earlier guns unless the recoil spring guide is swapped.

Should be interesting to see if there are any other compatibility issues.

When I was gun shops and talk about the customization of Glock came up the recoil spring was always the first thing they would chance for a high pressure spring.

Glad to see Glock went to work on improving that.
